Whether you’re new to yoga or just to us, we know how intimidating the first class can be. Here’s some information to prepare you for your visit.

  • What should I wear?
Wear something that feels good. It does not have to be spandex or stylish. Anything that allows you to move freely is perfect.

  • Do you have mats?
We have mats. If you’d like to bring your own, you’re welcome to. If you don’t own one or forget yours at home, we have plenty of spares; and they’re free. We have all the other props you might need- blanket, blocks, bolsters, straps.

  • Which class should I attend first?
We recommend starting with “Gentle Yoga” if you’re a first-time student.

  • What if I’m overweight or out of shape?
The average student at LRY does not look like the yogis often portrayed in magazines or social media. The majority of our clients are not physically inclined or athletically driven. We just want to feel good in our bodies for as long as possible, because it’s the foundation for a more peaceful life. There is a place for you here. You’re in good company.

If you’re nervous about whether or not a group class is suitable for you, consider signing up for a private session first.

  • What time should I arrive?
Plan to arrive a few minutes early to meet with us and learn your way around. We’ll give you the tour and make sure you’re ready for class.

  • Does my practice need to look like everyone else’s?
No, and it shouldn’t. Trust and honor your body. Do what feels right, and never push through pain. Enjoy your complexity and your uniqueness.

  • How long is a class?
All classes are an hour long, unless otherwise noted, and typically end with 5-10 minutes of conscious rest/meditation. This is the most important (and sometimes most enjoyable) part!

  • What does “Namaste” mean?
Yoga classes will often close with the phrase “Namaste”. Roughly translated, it’s a greeting in the Sanskrit language. It calls to the spiritual heart within ourselves and of one another.

  • Is yoga religious?
No. Yoga connects us to the source of who we are, whatever name we call it by. Be still and know what’s in your heart.
